LUFC calendar of events and fixtures

May-29-2008 By Chris Hudson

We’ve added a new page to the blog part of leedsutd365.co.uk - a LUFC calendar of events and fixtures.

We will include important dates in the football diary in the calendar -  there’s a few on there already.

Let us know if you have a Leeds United event in your supporters club, school or pub and we’ll happily include it free of charge.

We’ve already put on the pre-season fixtures, and most of matches have maps attached so you can find the locations easily. We will be including the same details for matches throughout the season.

The calendar is an embedded Google one so that you can subscribe to it using Windows Outlook or iCal for Macs and have access to the information on your desktop at work or at home. Details are accessible by clicking on the “Google” button at the bottom of the calendar.

Alan Thompson retires from Leeds United

May-29-2008 By Autolycus

Alan Thompson has retired from football after a final season dogged by injury. He made just 26 appearances for Leeds United in two seaons, but it could have been much different - Leeds tried to sign the midfielder from Bolton in the late nineties but he chose Aston Villa. He went on to win an England cap and later many trophies at Celtic.

“I’ve had a good career but I’ve decided to call it a day,” said Alan, “I’ll take a bit of time out but I’d like to stay in the game. The high point was playing for England but I’ve got plenty of good memories.”

“It’s been enjoyable. I had hoped to have played more of a part (at Leeds) and it was disappointing to finish on a low at Wembley on Sunday.”

On a day when Darren Kenton was released at the end of a short-term contract, Leeds United manager Gary McAllister has decided to retain the services of striker Tomi Ameobi and reserve keeper David Lucas.

Tomi Ameobi is a young striker who spent much of the 2007-08 season on loan and is clearly seen as one for the future.

Defender, Darren Kenton, had been signed by Dennis Wise in January, from Leicester City on a contract until the end of the season.

Leeds United, Bray Wanderers & Rehab Bingo!

May-27-2008 By Chris Hudson

Details are now available for getting tickets for Leeds United’s pre-season friendly against Bray Wanderers on Sunday, July 20th.

Ticket prices are: Adult - €15.00, Student - €10.00, Child / OAP - €7.00. That’s approximately £12 for adults at today’s exchange rate.

Interestingly, Bray Wanderers are charging their regular League of Ireland Premier Division ticket prices for the game! Let’s hope the Guinness in the club bar is cheap! Although as Tipperary Natural Mineral Water is one of their corporate sponsors travelling fans may be in for a bit of a disappointment!

Here’s the direct link to tickmaster’s page for the game: Bray Wanderers v Leeds United

If you want to know more about our opponents they have an excellently designed website which is worth a visit. Their shirt sponsors are, worryingly, called “Rehab Bingo“, which brings all kinds of mental images to mind, but the young lady parading in the club jersey adorned with their logo is worth a look.

After 11 games of the season Bray Wanderers are currently in 6th place in the twelve team Premier Division. If you have Setanta Sports you should be able to catch one of their games live before our friendly.
