Football League, Southend, Carlisle reject fair deal for fans
Well they all hate Leeds United and its fans but when there’s a chance of getting their hands on Leeds’ money the Football League and the other clubs in the League One play-offs just can’t get enough of them.
Rubbing their grimy paws with glee at the thought of a cut of a 40,000 gate at Elland Road the Football League and the other clubs in the play-offs have rejected the application by Leeds United to have the home leg of the League One play-offs classed as category C game and thus reward fans for their fantastic support by leaving some money in their pocket.
No, the Football League and the other shameless clubs want to squeeze every penny out of their fans. Have they not heard of the increases in energy, food and petrol prices and mortgages repayments? Do they think football fans have bottomless pockets? Still, maybe that’s why most of them play in front of less than 15,000 week in, week out. Of course, Lord Mawhinney is a former politician, so why would we expect him to relate to the needs of the ordinary working man, Gordon Brown clearly lives in a world of his own!
Screw the fans - another great decision from the Football League and Planet Mawhinney.
Still as Ken Bates said this evening on Radio Yorkshire in an avuncular style, but with threatening undertones of the Gestapo, “we have long memories and know those clubs who may want help in the future“.

We shouldn’t be surprised by any of this, we’ve always been on our own:-
* from the FA Cup semi final in 1967 when we had 2 legitimate goals disallowed against chelsea in order to produce an all London final;
* to 1970 when we had to play 9 games in 16 days to chase a treble - help from the FA/FL to help an English club in Europe? No, because it’s Leeds;
* to 1971 when Ray Tinkler gave 2 offside goals to West Brom, giving Arsenal the double on a plate;
* to 1972 when we won the cup on the Saturday and were forced by the authorities to play at Wolves 2 days later - unless of course we wished to delay and lose our England players to a meaningless international;
* to fixed Cup Winners Cup and European Cup Finals in 1973 and 1975;
to now, when, because they hate us, and for no other reason, they want to see us bow and scrape to their authority. So, they pass a judgement based on our belated appeal (a blatant lie); & based on the impact this would have on other clubs (why is that a consideration in terms of whether the -15 points was justified in the first place); and based on the document we signed ruling out an appeal (under duress - and if they made us do that, then they knew we had a case anyway).
The normal rules of justice don’t apply to Leeds. Well, I don’t care. When we win the play-offs, I only hope that our captain climbs those stairs, picks up the cup, tramples on it and passes it straight back to the luminary they choose to present it.
“Draw a line under it” Mr Mawhinney? Oh, I don’t think so.
We’ve always been on our own, and we always will be, but we’ll have 39,000 there on saturday; we’ll keep our world-wide base of fans, and we will be back. And, when we are, whatever you affiliation to whichever club you support, don’t ever look to Leeds for sympathy or favour - we look after our own.
Marching on Together.
Well said Lifelongleeds - you’re right, if we win the play-offs we should embarrass Mawhinney by the players celebrating with the fans then leaving the pitch without going up for the cup! Brilliant!
Thanks for that LLL - that brought a huge smile to my face!
It’s football mate! Get over it!
Good luck for Playoff’s.
Thanks bedfordred.
I know it’s only football; that’s just what I was thinking as I read all those schaden-freude, spiteful and snide comments from other clubs’ fans, players and chairmen recently. But, I’m only human and a little rightful indignation is called for.
I don’t know what shade of red you are (but, as you apparently come from Bedford, I can hazzard a guess). Anyway, as some other red once said “some people think football’s a matter of life and death. I can assure them they are quite wrong - it’s far more important than that”.
Thanks for your best wishes for the play-offs - I hope we do it.
Right, I’m going for my tea - if I can face it.
Maybe you’re scared that you won’t fill your ground if you charge £20 a seat. Y
YOOOOOOUUUUUU REDS!
this is rich. forest backed leeds when the points were first deducted and our fans are very fair with you on the boards. also we have kids for a quid games and £5 all ticket games, as well as concessions that include students, unlike many. we will have 30,000 ourselves. i dont even think the names of the clubs that rejected it were released. get a life!
Give over - you’re not that important. You think the whole worlds against you when in reality the world doesn’t care.
Then…Now….Forever…Forest.
2 words spring to mind, SOUR GRAPES.
I was born in Leeds - Roundhay to be precise. I lived there until I was 11, and regularly went to Elland Road in 1976-8 - at which point I started supporting Forest. I was eight years old.
Why? Because Leeds United back then embodied everything that was wrong about football - nasty, ugly, cheating, thoroughly unpleasant.
And guess what? You still represent all those things. I’m ashamed of the city of my birth for spawning such brutality. I was genuinely thrilled when every other club in the football league (including all those in the two leagues you’re not in) unanimously voted to exclude you unless you accepted the 15 points deduction AND promised not to appeal.
You appealed anyway. Like I said - nasty, ugly, cheating, thoroughly unpleasant.
I hope you stay in league one forever.
I remember when Leeds played Leyton Orient in O’s one season in div 162/63, bremner running upfield ran right over Dave Dunmore, who was sprawled in the mud and was not penalised.
