Leeds United striker Anthony Elding’s contract negotiations with Crewe Alexandra have broken down.

A six-figure transfer fee for the 26-year-old had been agreed, however, as we stated five days ago, Elding has a contract until 2010, his family are Leeds fans and he is on very good wages plus he only moved to Leeds United in January from Stockport County and has hardly been given a chance to sho what he can do.

It looks like we were correct and that Elding has decided wants to remain at Leeds to fight for his place, an attitude that will please Leeds fans generally.

Millwall, Darlington, Hartlepool United and Leyton Orient are all following the transfer with interest.

Leeds tame the Lions

Millwall 0 v Leeds United 2

Leeds faced a determined Millwall side but still did what all The best teams do - come away with all three points despite being second best on the day.

Prutton and Hughes scored similar well-crafted goals against the run of play in the second half.

The result was more important than the game itself, and if it hadn’t been for a late Brighton goal we would have secured our play-off place today.

Irrespective of the outcome of the arbitration over the 15 points deduction the current League One table still makes good viewing. Leeds are in a relatively secure 6th and final play-off place.
